The solution

wwwarcelona developed a complete mobile application that connects fitness devices with users and teachers in each class in real time. Through the app, each user sees their own live metrics, can compare themselves with classmates and access their complete training history. The teacher, on the other hand, has a global view of the entire class projected in the room, allowing him to personalize the experience and motivate participants in real time. Today, the platform is present in more than 500 gyms in different countries, with thousands of active users daily.

Definition of the challenge

Aplifit is a company specialising in the distribution of software for gyms and fitness rooms. Its challenge was clear: the indoor cycle and functional training rooms had high-performance machinery – bicycles, treadmills, ergometers – capable of generating valuable data on the effort of each user, but there was no tool that took advantage of all this information to create a connected, motivating and measurable classroom experience. The digital layer that would give meaning to all that hardware was missing: an application that would allow users to see their performance in real time, teachers to manage the class visually and the company to have aggregated data on the use of the platform.

Product strategy and functional design

The design of Aplifit has been worked on in close collaboration with the client and putting the end user at the center of every decision. With Figma as the main tool, the screens were designed and iterated for two very different profiles: the user who trains and needs to see their metrics in a clear and motivating way, and the teacher who has to manage the class and monitor the group at a glance. The projection screen – visible throughout the room – required special treatment: an interface designed to be read remotely, with high visibility, contrast and clear visual hierarchy. The entire design system is coherent, accessible and scalable.

Technical Architecture, Integrations, and Performance

The application was born with Ionic, a pioneering technology at the time for cross-platform development. Over the years and the evolution of the sector, the platform has been migrated to React Native, offering a smoother, more native and higher performance experience on both iOS and Android. The backend, built with Laravel Nova, manages all the business logic: authentication, gym management, training history, user and teacher roles, and integrations with third-party APIs. This combination guarantees a solid, modern technological base ready to continue growing.

The architecture of the system has been designed to manage in real time data streams from hundreds of devices connected simultaneously in the same class. The performance data of each user – pulses, power, speed, calories – is captured from the treadmill or bicycle via Bluetooth or ANT+ and processed on the spot to feed both the user’s personal profile and the projection screen visible in the room. The backend, developed with Laravel Nova, centralizes all the management of gyms, users, teachers and sessions. In addition, open APIs have been developed to facilitate the integration of third parties – machine manufacturers, gym management platforms – expanding the ecosystem and value of the platform.

Market launch and validation

Beyond development, we have supported the launch in new markets and gyms, accompanying the Aplifit team with internal analytics tools that allow us to know the real use of the application. Through Firebase and other monitoring platforms, key metrics such as frequency of use, participation per class, user retention and the technical performance of the app in real time are recorded. This information has been essential to make product decisions based on real data and not on assumptions.
