Agmonitor

Smart data for more efficient agriculture

Design and development of an App for the US market that clearly communicates a technological platform capable of transforming agricultural data into decisions, optimizing the use of water and energy and promoting more sustainable agriculture.

The solution

wwwarcelona completely revamped the existing AgMonitor application, transforming it into a state-of-the-art agricultural monitoring platform. The new app centralizes all the relevant information for the management of a large-scale farm: data from IoT sensors, satellite images, weather forecasts of rain and temperature, status of wells and water pumps, and soil moisture levels. With all this information integrated, the app offers managers the precise recommendations to optimize water use, decide the optimal sowing and harvesting times, and maximize the profitability of each farm.

Definition of the challenge

AgMonitor is an agricultural technology company based in San Francisco (USA) that specialises in the intelligent management of large farms – the ranches – that characterise American agriculture. Their challenge was clear: they had an old application that was no longer up to the level of the product or the market, and they needed a complete renovation to be able to present it forcefully at the main agricultural technology fairs in the United States. The new app had to be able to integrate very diverse data sources – field sensors, satellites, meteorological APIs – and turn them into operational recommendations for farm managers.

Product strategy and functional design

The design was developed with Figma, with a very pragmatic approach: the main users are ranch managers and field technicians who need clear, fast and actionable information. The interface prioritizes the visualization of critical data – well status, humidity levels, irrigation alerts, weather forecasts – in intuitive dashboards that work seamlessly both in the office and in the field.

Technical Architecture, Integrations, and Performance

The technological revamp was done with React Native and Expo, which made it possible to maintain a single codebase for iOS and Android with a high-quality native experience. The backend was designed to integrate with multiple data sources: field IoT sensors, external weather APIs, and satellite imagery, offering an intelligence layer that transforms raw data into actionable recommendations for farm managers.

The app’s architecture has been designed to process and visualize large volumes of data in real time: readings from IoT sensors from wells and water pumps, soil moisture data, integrations with meteorological APIs for rain and temperature forecasting, and satellite images for crop status analysis. All this information is consolidated into an intelligent recommendation system that helps farm managers make operational decisions with a direct impact on profitability: it is estimated that optimal water management can represent a saving of 40% of farm costs.

Market launch and validation

Not applicable. The product launch was done directly through AgMonitor’s own commercial network, with presentations at agricultural and technology fairs in the United States, where the new app acted as the main product demonstration tool.

An app that thinks like an agronomist and acts like an engineer. Exactly what we needed.

The team

The wwwarcelona team acted as a technological implant within AgMonitor for four months: a complete team of fully coordinated frontend and backend, working side by side with the client’s internal team as if they were a single team. This implant modality allowed maximum integration, a very agile pace of development and a deep understanding of the product and its users.
